What is the Difference Between the RAM 1500 & RAM 1500 Classic?

If you've recently been browsing truck selections, you've no doubtitly come across the comprehensive RAM lineup. From everyday essentials to heavy-duty work trucks, RAM has everything you need and more. Among the most iconic of these models is the RAM 1500 -- built for quality and endurance, it's picked up quite a few recognizable awards over the years. RAM had recently broken its RAM 1500 models into two variations, the RAM 1500 and RAM 1500 Classic. While both provide the standard RAM quality and performance guarantee, there are a few notable differences between the two that can help you decide which model is best for you.

Exterior

While the Ram 1500 Classic has a more rugged and traditional look to the exterior, while the Ram 1500 offers a more modern and sporty look. With the innovative multifunction tailgate, which features a 60/40 split for added convenience, the Ram 1500 has a more futuristic look.

In both standard models, identical Quad and Crew Cab dimensions are available, with the difference being that the RAM 1500 Classic includes an additional 6'4'' and 8' Regular Cab box option. Arguably the biggest difference between the RAM 1500 and RAM 1500 Classic exteriors are the available features for each. The RAM 1500 offers a newly engineered multifunction tailgate, which is designed to open barn-door style for better convenience. However, the RAM 1500 Classic offers more versatile bed options in the standard models such as spray-in bedliner, LED lighting, and the RamBox Cargo Management System.

Interior

Whether you're considering the RAM 1500 or RAM 1500 Classic, each truck is built with style and comfort in mind. Seating capacity of 6, recline adjustments for both driver and passenger seats, and 12-volt power outlets are available in either model. For a more simplistic interior, the RAM 1500 Classic offers cloth seating while the RAM 1500 offers premium leather in select models.

Engine & Towing Capacity

There is no need to worry about comparing engine capabilities since both the RAM 1500 and RAM 1500 Classic are powered by a 3.6-litre V6 8-speed transmission in standard models. If that isn't enough, however, both offer premium engine options to maximize power and performance. When equipped with the available 5.7 HEMI V8, the RAM 1500 Classic carries an impressive 10,680-lbs in towing capacity. Similarly, the RAM 1500 has an available 3.0-litre EcoDiesel V6 and can tow up to 12,560lbs.

Luckily, you won't have to sacrifice performance for fuel efficiency in a RAM truck. The RAM 1500 estimates an impressive 20/25 miles per gallon for city/highway driving respectively. The RAM 1500 Classic offers slightly better city performance with 17/25 respectively.
