Catahoula Recreation Off-Road Park is a popular destination for off-roading enthusiasts in Louisiana. Located near the small town of Sicily Island, this park spans over 450 acres and offers a variety of terrains to challenge both novice and experienced off-roaders. The park features a diverse range of terrains, including mud pits, hill climbs, and forest trails. Catahoula Recreation offers camping facilities, including both primitive and RV camping with hookups. There are also restrooms and shower facilities available for visitors. The park regularly hosts off-road events, competitions, and gatherings, attracting off-roading communities from across the region. Special events often include guided trail rides, mud-bogging competitions, and family-friendly activities. Loran Trailhead is situated in a scenic area, offering easy access to a variety of trails and natural landscapes. The park features a range of trails that cater to various skill levels, from beginner to advanced. Terrain types include muddy areas, forested trails, hill climbs, water crossings, and open fields, providing a diverse off-roading experience. There are more than 70 miles in the Claiborne Multiple Use Trail system.  These trails loop through upland pine forests and hardwood bottoms and consist of three separate loops that vary in distance and difficulty level. North Loop, which spans 31 miles, Woodworth Loop, 20 miles, and Boy Scout Loop (single track), stretching 30 miles. The trail is managed by the Calcasieu Ranger District and offers a wide range of recreational activities - beyond off-roading - that the Kisatchie National Forest has to offer.

There are a few tips we'd like to share about off-roading in Louisiana to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable outing. First and foremost, you should familiarize yourself with your vehicle's capabilities and limitations, including ground clearance, tire type, and 4x4 functions. It's also advisable to conduct a pre-trip inspection to check your Jeep's tire pressure and fluid levels and ensure all parts are in good working order. Louisiana's trails can get very muddy, especially after rain. Equip your vehicle with mud tires for better traction. In case you get stuck, you should also bring recovery gear such as a winch, tow straps, a shovel, and a high-lift jack. Respect posted signs and stay on designated trails to preserve the environment and avoid private property. You must also drive at a safe speed, especially around corners and in areas with limited visibility. Also, be sure to yield to hikers, bikers, and horseback riders and give way to uphill traffic. Some other tips we'd like to share include researching trails before you go, using the buddy system when off-roading, having a GPS device or trail map handy, and having a first aid kit, snacks, and water on hand.
